In October 1996, due to decision of Principle of University of Maritime, sub-department of Information Technology was formed. On June 27th 2001, Principle of Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport signed decision of transforming sub-department of Information technology into Department of Information Technology.,
In 2020 vision, Department strived to become one of the best and reliable places for training and research in the field of Information Technology and media which contribute to transport as well as society.
Organization and staff
Department of Information Technology includes 05 sub-departments: Solfware Technology, Information System, Computer and media network, Computer Technique and Basic computer science. The department runs 02 specialized disciplines at undergraduate level which are Information Technology and Media and computer network; 01 specialized discipline at post-graduate level which is Computer Science.
To fullfil the training of technological workforce, the quantity and quality of staff of Information Technology Department are continuously growing. Until now, The IT Department of HCMUT have had 31 lecturers, including 07 PhDs and the rest are MA or doing MA. Besides that, there are also faculty members who are qualified to take part in training.
Facilities
To support teaching and learning, Department is running 06 computers laboratories with nearly 300 computers. In which, there is a computer laboratory with high technology with ability to meet the need of research, teaching and intensive practicing in the field of Big Data, Cloud computing, High performance computing.
Specialities
During 20 years of functioning and continuos development, Department is now training 02 specialized disciplines at undergraduate level which is Information Technology, Computer network; 01 specalized discipline which is Computer science; at the same time teaching Basic Informatics for other specialized disciplines.
In 2021, Information Technology discipline is chosen to take part in self-assessment and curriculum assurance due to Organization for Standard of Ministry of Education (MOET). Now, discipline is completing self-assessment report and preparing documents and proceedings for external assessment.
Scientific research
Scientific research activities are exciting, staff and students in the department have many scientific researches at different levels, many research works are published in domestic and international conferences, workshops and magazines. Students of Information Technology Department record high achievement in competitions of IT such as: Competition of workmanship of HCMUT, Vietnamese students Informatics Olympic 2015, The most favorite robots in Creating Robots competition in 2015…
